Geology

Geologically, the site lies in the Basin of Madrid, south of the Sierra de Guadarrama mountain range, in an area characterised by abundant mineral resources. The Miocene formation in which it is found contains four episodes of flint and opal between layers of magnesian clay and dolomite.

The geological columns prepared in different areas of the site reveal how different siliceous episodes lie subhorizontally at different depths. These are composed of one or more levels of flint nodules and/or frequently discontinuous lenticular layers of flint of variable thickness (maximum 40 cm).
